A North Indian Wootz Goliya.
A fantastic example of a North Indian Wootz Goliya (referring to a blade of a deep curve). The North Indian style hilt is generously covered with silver work in the form of small stars/cross hatches and flowers on the pommel. The silver work is 90% preserved and in good condition. A fine proportioned hilt and of great weight.
The blade is of Indian wootz steel with a consistent pattern throughout the entire length of the blade. The blade has a deep curve, similar to the Persian shamshir, which Indians refer to as a ‘Goliya’ (meaning round). The blade is slender and light weight making welding very practical and simple for the user.
Accompanied with a new wooden scabbard covered in blue velvet.
