A silver work wootz Tulwar, with an exception hilt and blade.
THIS EXAMPLE
This is a very clean and good example of a 19th century North Indian Tulwar from the 19th century.
The steel hilt is of an open guard form and of large proportions. The pommel features a surajvanshi design and pommel spike, a traditional feature of Rajasthani swords. Suryavansh are of the Rajput dynasties and link their lineage to ‘Surya’ who is the Sun God. Suryavansha is mentioned in classical Indian texts like the Ramayana and Mahabharata. The hilt is decorated with silver koftgari in the form of geometric and floral patterns, which remains 98% in tact. It is difficult to obtain swords with very good quality hilts, such as this example.
The blade is of substantial construction and of a sirohi type. Excellent weight and a very good feel to the sword; it has a certain presence about it. The blade is constructed of wootz and presents itself as a fighting example with practical characteristics.
Some light surface wear to the blade with the hilt remaining in near mint condition.
CONCLUSION
A very nice Tulwar with a near mint condition hilt; with presence and a great feel.
